EXP 3: Final Submission

Peer Marking:

Theory:
Boxy and Blank to Natural and Futuristic

Boxy and angular buildings are everywhere because of their space efficency and relatively low cost to construct. However studies showed that this can have psychological effects on people who sees them everyday. Since this experiment is to design a school for architects, shifting away from this trend can potentially increase the interest of students and allow for a more energetic learning experience.

Omnidirectional textures indicate the connection bridge can go in difference directions.

Elevator exterior mapped with a vine like texture attempts to mimic a tree which ties into the theory of natural and futuristic.

Facade mapped with a simple angular pattern accentuates the boring and edgy design of surrounding buildings yet stands out amongst them with an interesting facade design.

2 Moving Elements:

Moving Element 1 - Glass tinting fades at night to allow more light to pass through. Lighting up nearby areas. Facade design changes according to the time of day, allowing for a constant change of scenery.

Moving Element 2 - Viewing the campus from the ground level blocks out almost all of the glass sections, leaving it to appear "mysterious" with tubes connecting everywhere. When viewed on higher levels the glass sections become clear and can be seen through from end to end.

Renders:

The idea behind this design is to show a shift between the boring old boxy structures we see in the city to more visually interesting and smooth looking structures. The lower campus starts off with blocky and edgy buildings, but you travel upwards you reach the more natural looking and interesting parts of the campus.
